Melt Chair
The Melt Chair was a fun and whimsical project I took part in whilst completing my studies at university. It was submitted into the Maxton Fox Chair Design competition in 2020 and has since been an entry in the Dowel Jones Design From Home 2 competition in 2021.
With an open brief, I was able to take the reigns in designing this chair in the way I wanted by incorporating bright colours, curvy edges, and playful elements. My intention for this design was to create three separate colour ways as shown in my photoshop renderings.
The Melt Chair encapsulates the same organic curves in it’s ‘melting’ seat body & bright colours in the customisable upholstery fabrics.
I was greatly inspired by Ettore Sottsass’ work & the Memphis design style that took off in the 1980’s featuring bold colours & organic curves.
I also liked the idea of creating a furniture piece that was symbolic of a melting icecream cone featuring cone-like chair legs & a ‘melting’ seat body.
